Sherman saved our lives last night when a fire started in the garage and consumed both cars, the family room, and the kitchen as well as covering every other room with black soot.

We were asleep when Sherman woke me up barking.  I heard voices (don't know who but heard someone).  I woke Jim up but he was so drowsy he didn't respond at first.  Sherman was insistent and Jim got up put on his robe to investigate.  He took both dogs with him and found billows of black smoke in the kitchen.  Jim ran back and told me to call 911 and get out of the house.  I grabbed my shoes and a fleece (GSD fleece) and we went for the front door.  Della was with us but Sherman ran back to the bedroom (I think he was looking for the cats).  I stood at the door and called him and was ready to go back in and get him.  I finally changed my voice to the "let's play ball" voice and he came bounding out.  The dogs were safe in the front (agility) yard while we lit up the neighborhood with fire trucks.  Snow coming down.

I'm in total shock but we're alive and safe at son Phill's house, our dogs are alive and safe, the cats were found alive by the firemen.  I want them checked for smoke.  The cars are just shells.  Today we'll sort out the situation with insurance and fire investigators.

Hug your kids, your husband, and your dogs for us.  God is good.
Karen
